I'm tired of reading different books that say at times the same exact thing word for word. It's obvious that some of these authors are using the same exact material as others, but not in this case. I usually do not bother with reviews but I liked this book a lot so thought I'd share

Most of the complaints for this book is that everything is simple or "no brainer" therefore who needs a book on the topic... Well my response is this: So what if the ideas in here are simple? Even someone like me who is an educator can struggle to teach simple things to my own child because I am not an expert doing it in the right way. For example: My son HATES to have his hair and teeth brushed (age 2). This book taught me what I was doing wrong - I was not letting the child explore and investigate the brushes, watch me brush my own hair and teeth, and then let him brush too in the mirror. Just by using adding a mirror to the wall at my son's height and allowing some self learning, now suddenly my son accepts and even gets excited about teeth brushing and hair brushing. So yes - if its your first child and you don't work with tiny toddler regularly - get this book. I avoided buying this book because of those other reviews and i wrongly thought I would know everything I needed just from the visible table of contents - yeah right! I needed to actually READ this book.Overall, I should have bought this and read this when my son was born. It is very helpful when its your first child and don't regularly teach toddlers skills.

Just recently I got interested with a book wrote by Maja Pitamic which entitled Teach Me How to Do it Myself. It was personally suggested by Joy Tan-chi Mendoza of Teach with Joy. This book is based on the key Montessori principle that children learn best through active experience. Not just that, what I love about this book it actually presents simple activities through which our daughter Abigail explore and develop her skills. I’ll tell you this eBook requires only a minimal amount of investment but with a higher return of investment in terms of understanding, knowing and teaching how does our daughter learns, and guide her how to do it herself.

I almost didn't get this book because of all the reviews saying it's recommended for ages 3-5. However they had this at my local library, so I was able to check it out and look through it. There are PLENTY of activities you can do with a 2 year old! Hand washing, hair brushing, brushing teeth, velcro-ing shoes, putting on a coat, talking about different textures, different smells, pouring beans, bead threading, simple color or shape matching just to name a few. These are already activities my 2 year old enjoys doing (with a little help). The pictures and illustrations are in color, the instructions are easy to follow, and the activities build on each other as you go through.I've read 3 other Montessori books- "Montessori Play and Learn," "How To Raise An Amazing Child the Montessori Way," and "Help your Preschooler Build a Better Brain." Of the four this is hands-down my favorite because it's so easy to follow and implement, there are tons of ideas, and the design/layout is very appealing. I've now bought my own copy!

I felt like there was not much information for the price of this book. The activities are general activities you find on the internet for free. They are not divided up by age category either and there were few I thought appropriate for my two year old. We are not new to Montessori though. For someone who is looking for a good idea of what to do with Montessori Methods, this would be an ok place to start.

I first looked into creating a Montessori home and this book has some wonderful tips for teaching your young ones how to do certain things. I really like the Montessori method of teaching independence but I have veered away from teaching my children things that they will be able to do easily when it's age appropriate, and not to spend so many hours trying to teach them something that they'll grasp in a few hours when they're age-able. What do I mean? Tying shoes: I can take weeks and weeks to teach my 4 year old to tie shoe laces, or I can wait til age 6 and teach her in a couple of hours. The book is good for a teaching tool with some great ideas.

Just a note, the author makes sure to point out that she is more capturing the "spirit" of Montessori, rather than following the letter of Montessori. So, you might want to consider that before purchasing this book.However, I really like the lay out of this book. The sections are divided nicely and each one has a lot of different activity ideas to do at home with your child. On each page, she also gives you more variations of the same activity to adjust as your child's abilities increase. This is very useful. She also gives a detailed list of things you need for each activity.I have a two year old son, and I am looking forward to implementing some new activities in to our daily routine. I was a preschool teacher before having my son, and I know from the children that I taught there, and my experience as a mother, children learn best by doing, and get excited about learning useful things. I love Montessori's philosophy on teaching children.

I served in Vietnam in 1967-68 in a support role, and was always amazed by the resilience of the Viet Cong in facing off against the most powerful military on earth.This book is AMAZING! It explains why and how the Vietnamese were able to endure unbelievable hardships to outlast the greatest power on earth. When I was in Saigon during the Tet Offensive, I marveled at how the Viet Cong could muster the forces needed to attack so many cities at the same time......the tunnels provide one answer...There are many lessons to be learned from this book......some which should have been learned much earlier by American Leadership. The key lesson for me was that TECHNOLOGICAL SUPERIORITY doesn't always result in eventual victory. History is replete with this lesson, going back to our own Revolution, when the British had the most powerful military on the planet, but eventually lost the American colonies. More recently, the Russians learned their hard lesson when they took on the Afghanistan people and eventually had to withdraw in spite of overwhelming military advantages. America could have avoided many of the lives lost in Vietnam had the leadership of the time remembered the lessons of the past.However, as evidenced by the more recent occupation of Iraq, when the leadership attempted to occupy a totally fractured country with too few troops, it took us over ten years to untangle ourselves from a mess we helped to create......in fact we are STILL embroiled there.The other lesson I've learned is this.....While I'm very supportive of HELPING other nations protect themselves, but THEY MUST TAKE THE LEAD in their own defense......if the populous isn't willing to do that, any regime we prop up will eventually fail.Lastly, I salute the soldiers who bravely fought this "underground war". They are truly among the very few who would be willing to do a job that most of us would never do. They deserve the special recognition that I believe this book delivers.

I found it very well-balanced in terms of telling both sides, though conservative readers might find it too sympathetic to the communists. Some amazing and terrifying stories. Makes you appreciate modern comforts, such as, you know, not living underground for years at a time.

Loved the book. As a 25th Division infantryman in 69/70 I was familiar with the base camp at Cu Chi although I spent my tour in near by Tay Ninh province. Always amazed by the mental and physical strength of the VC and this book proves why.

I spent some time in Cu Chi, 25th inf, so naturally the topic was of interest. What I found so wonderful was the quality of the writing and most importantly the writers ability to share both the G.I. and V.C. side of that tragic waist of life and dollars. I was unable to put it down. Even if your not a Military history buff but appreciate a talented writers ability to tell a story , you will like this book

Everyone should read this book. They will discover things they probably never thought of about these tinnels. I could not imagine having tunnels so big they had hospitals too plus many other things. They had different elevations or floors. The men who lived or served here were a special group who took take the darkness, little air at times and the dirt of course. Our own soldiers that explored them were a very brave group to even dare go into a hole inthe ground so small. Kind of a long story yet very good reading and one you really want to keep reading.

This is one of the best books on the Vietnam War, mainly because it includes a great deal of insightful perspective from the the other side - namely the Vietcong. It also highlights American tactical failures absent from most American histories. For example, placing the 25th Infantry Division main base of operations virtually on top of the enemy's biggest tunnel complex and never recognizing that fact. At times the narrative becomes plodding and I'll ding it a star for that, but I'd only take half that star away if I could.

This is one of the best books I have read on Vietnam. It shows both sides of the war. Those that should read this book are those that called Vietnam soldiers baby and women killers. Read this book and see what they were up against. They didn't deserve the bad rap they got. Thank You Vietnam veterans.

Stated couldn't find many GI tunnel rats and spent most of the book interviewing VC. I was based out of Cu Chi for half my tour (1967) and found the book not as I remembered.
