It is a passionate, profane and highly-readable account of the signature horror of Hurricane Katrina - the drowning deaths of 35 nursing home patients.When the book opens, it is two years after the storm and Cobb is in court, defending the Sal and Mabel Mangano, owners of St. Rita's Nursing Home, who've been charged criminally with the deaths. They face the prospect of spending their golden years behind bars.The families of the victims are out for blood; they arrive for the trial's last day all dressed in black. Cobb's law partners, who have been trying to resurrect their Katrina-flattened law practice while he represents the most-despised people in Louisiana, are barely speaking to him. Cobb himself is buried under a mountain of personal debt as he simultaneously struggled to rebuild his own flooded house and mount a defense he's not sure his clients can afford.Cobb's chief adversary is Louisiana's Attorney General, a politically ambitious first-termer facing reelection, Charles Foti. The AG served three decades as the criminal sheriff of Orleans Parish and was known more as an astute political operator than a student of the law. In the days after Katrina, Foti stoked public outrage against the Manganos with a media campaign that vilified the couple so thoroughly most Louisianans thought the Manganos deserved whatever charges the state could muster up. And the state mustered up a full slate: Each of the Manganos was charged with 35 counts of negligent homicide and 24 counts of cruelty to the elderly and infirm -- for a total of 118 counts.Cobb had never defended a criminal case before. You won't believe what almost everybody in this book goes through, and there are some details you never knew and will never forget, like the animals fleeing in advance of the 6-ft. wall of water racing toward the nursing home. A remarkable read, with absolutely no slow parts-even the courtroom scenes are dynamic and immediate. If you know the story of the Manganos and St. Rita's, maybe remember the outcome of the trial but still think something was amiss, you need to read this. Better yet, if you just want to read the most gripping, exciting, non-fiction roller coaster book of the year, get it. Oh man they have GOT to make a movie of this...

Cobb does a great job in taking you behind the scene of perhaps the worst natural conflagration to hit our shores Ind now we have Houston).I've been a Navy prosecutor and now I'm retiring as a federal judge after serving 24 years on the bench. Louisiana's AG's office during the trial was abysmal and bordering on the unethical. Cobb does a great job of creating the mood and the narrow-mindedness of incompetent state and federal officials.There was a crime committed, a tale Cobb eloquently and accurately portrays. An intentional crime committed by a state justice system's political machine against victims of a natural disaster. I wonder how those prosecutors feel, knowing they tried to override justice. Even by Louisiana's standards, they smelled as bad as the aftermath of the storm.Good for Cobb. He did good!

I read a lot of books but this one has my vote for the year as being the one I will recommend. it read it completely in less than 24 hours. From the very beginning it grabbed me and I could not put it down till I finished. This book would make a GREAT movie. I wish it would be made into a movie because most people only take what the media says as fact and never bothers to read more in detail on a subject.This is the story about the case of the owners charged in the 35 deaths of St Rita's Nursing Home during Hurricane Katrina. It is written by the attorney who defended them and PRAISE GOD to him for defending this poor couple against an irresponsible Attorney General's office. This is one of those stories that needed to be told and it was incredibly well written. It was funny and sad at the same time because the author's personality shines through so much in the writing. The TRUE story needed to be told and I am so glad he has told it.This is a MUST READ!!! Hope it becomes a movie!!!

Jim Cobb is an excellent legal thriller author. He inserts the reader into the drama with him, describing his internal feelings and what he had for lunch alongside descriptions of people involved in this true story, and transcripts directly from what was an emotional roller-coaster of a trial for all involved. The story was engaging and instructive, and Mr. Cobb's genuine concern for his clients inspiring. I look forward to reading more from him, and I would love to be a student in one of his classes!

Loved the book. So typical of people being influenced by the media. Now I know the real story. The owners of the nursing home were good people that genuinely cares for the residents. Such a sad story. I also admired the lawyer who stuck by the owners so they could tell them real story. It was a heartbreaking story that resonates that youve have to have been there to understand the crisis they were faced with.The water came in so fast that they're wasn't enough time to save everyone. Although they tried and that's what we need to remember out of this tragedy. So sad.

This book is amazing! It was a required reading for my children's homeschooling curriculum. It is so well written and they learned so much about economics. It is recommended for middle schoolers, but I read this to my 6th and 3rd grader and the 3rd grader was so interested in this material and understood most of it! I have been telling all my friend's about this book. Strongly recommend this book if you want to give your children (or yourself) a basic understanding of economics. Something EVERYONE should have!

A sign of a genius is the ability to explain a "complex" subject in simple terms using basic language. This author is a genius. This book will change the entire way that you look at your day-to-day life as a participant in the American economy. You will actually laugh when you read the "Wall Street Journal" or listen to either a politician or "talking head" discussing the economy after reading this book. This book demonstrates that "The Emperor Has No Clothes". The only reason "The Man" makes economics complicated is to keep the masses from understanding what is being done to them.

This book lives up to its reputation! It is a fantastic explanation of economic basics, clear and easy to read, entertaining and well written. I especially like how the material is presented systematically and in small, understandable chunks via letters from an economist uncle. I appreciate how the author gives historic examples of the principles discussed, and shows how the economy has influenced history. The adults in the house learned from this book, too!

Watch a video of adults interviewed on the street on basic economics. They do not understand where money even comes from, let alone what function the Federal Reserve Serves. If you want your kids to have a concise, clear understanding of economics (which, our government would rather they not have), I would absolutely recommend this book over any other. Clear, good illustrations, synopsis of history of money and corruption (seems they go hand-in-hand, no?). I highly recommend this book.

Fabulous book with the clearest explanation of the cause of inflation and the businesss cycle. These ideas can be hard to wrap your head around, but this book makes it so clear and simple. What is inflation? What causes booms and busts? What do people mean when they talk about "sound money"? All these questions are answered, with a clear writing style that an 8th-grader could easily understand. If you are looking to move past a CNN cartoon understanding of the economy, start here. To boot, the book is chock-full of extra stats, charts, references, etc, that make it a superb starting point to learn more.

This book is outstanding. It explains money so clearly and how governments (the producers of money) over the centuries have treated it. He explains inflation and recession in terms that a novice as green as I am can easily understand. Since money is the ultimate fungible medium for everyone on the planet, understanding how it is influenced and controlled is essential for us all--children, workers, and retirees. We all count on money, so we should learn who affects its value and how that therefore affects us. Maybe it's just I who have been in the dark so long that I have found this book so enlightening that I would give it six stars on a scale of five (even though Amazon won't let me). But if I'm actually not that divorced from the mainstream, then I suspect others may find it as exciting as I did.

This is a brilliant book for all ages. I got it to read to my 7 year old daughter, but I am learning just as much as she is. I love the real life examples in the books. For example, when the book talked about runaway inflation, it gave quite a few examples of items that have been affected by this type of inflation. This will be a book that we will read together many times over. I am excited to try other books in this series.

Love. love, love this book! I bought many copies when it first came out and gave them all away because I loved it so much and wanted to share it. This book really opened my eyes to the unseen realm all around us and I could hardly lay it down. I bought another copy recently for my personal library and highly recommend it. I will never forget how much the author's dog Queenie loved to play with the angels who came to visit her master. If you love dogs, you will enjoy this book! They can often see what we cannot. :-)

I owned this book when it first came out at the very end of the 1970's. Since that time I either got rid of it or lent it out and never got it back. In the last few years, I really wanted to read this again so I ordered it. I find that it is a timely read for me and don't want it to end. This was the first book I ever read on angelic visitations and/or a book concerning angelic activity and it is a very powerful one.

Highly recommend to any Bible scholar. Read this book years ago before Pastor Buck passed away. Really inspiring book and will open your eyes to the spiritual world of the supernatural. And the Angels roles and true purpose in God's Heavenly Kingdom. Pastor Buck was a true man who walk with God and his Angelic messengers and talked with them. Will open your eyes and give you a whole new outlook on how much God loves his people and a real eye opening to what the crucifixion and resurrection of our Savior, Our King and Lord, Jesus Christ What a real sacrifice Jesus made for us to deliver us from the sin, and make it so we can be saved by his grace in God's eyes. Truly inspirational and a great read. Praise the Lord, he's coming soon.

Read the first edition years ago. Read the 2nd edition in paper back form and again in the kindle edition. I feel the urgent desire to tell people about how God feels about them. HowHe cares for them just He has me. Although The 2nd edition seem to have a few spelling errors, it has not taken away from the Angelic message from the heart of a Loving and Caring God and The Powerful Message Of The Shed Blood Of Jesus for our Redemption. I wept with the revelation of such tremendous pain Jesus endured - and His Sprinkled Blood that has totally blotted out all records in the books against each of us and restoring us to a place of total innocence and fellowship with God - His Father - and Who - now also has become ours. Buying more copies to share around. Will make excellent gifts. Given it five stars in spite of the spelling errors. The message is powerful and uplifting, and certainly stirs the heart with love towards God without fear. He deeply loves people - good and bad. That really impacted me. The Scriptures quoted are definitely given new meaning. Great book to read! I love The Word Of/From God xxxx

Buck (of the famous Buck knife family) passed away on November 06, 1979, long ago and had no way of knowing if his predictions would come true.First, on page 93, Buck claims the Holy Spirit told him: "...I have already given wings to my messages brought to you by the angel of the Lord."Then, on page 70, Buck claims "God told me the pope has no more influence with him than the least of his saints, and has no greater privileges, but because his influence with man is great, his choice is God's concern. Therefore, in order to help in the restoration of his fragmented body, God had chosen a man named Karol Wojtyla of Poland. This prophecy was fulfilled October 16, 1978, when he began his reign as Pope John Paul II."Now, there's no way of proving God told Buck about the Pope before his selection. However, Buck, who died in 1979, had no way of knowing whether or not John Paul would even *live* after being selected, let alone be so influential -for over almost 30 years! -until John Paul's death on April 02, 2005, just two days after the passing of Terri Schiavo. Even quite a few Protestants, Jews, and Muslims think highly of John Paul, so it is safe to say Buck's prophecy came true.Also, while there are many other angel books, it's safe to say that his other prediction has come true: Angels on Assignment is one of the classic books, and is circulated world-wide. Both prophecies came true.I first read this book when I was much younger, and, as I recall, I couldn't put in down until I was finished. Clearly, this is a subject that fascinates most people! (Here, we find the account of an old country preacher, who didn't really want to cause any controversy or undo the years of hard work he had building up his ministry, suddenly telling of speaking with the Archangels, Michael and Gabriel, and other angels, not mentioned in scripture but who he claims visited him: Chrioni, apparently a warring angel who is Gabriel's bodyguard, and an angel of worship named Cyprion.)What impressed me most initially was the fact that the preacher was an old man with health conditions and knew he probably had only a few more years, thus I don't feel he had a motive to profit by lying. In fact, as I recall, he did not even try to write a book. Charles and Frances Hunter came to HIM and offered to write a book. Later, I was able to reflect on what he had claimed the angels told him, and I was glad my background in the Bible was strong.(Also impressive is the fact that his accounts of the many private things he told about people, things revealed to him by angels, has NEVER been refuted in the press, and I've followed this case for years: I think it's true!)First, he never says that we should try to seek contact with angels, and this seems correct to me, because the Bible forbids us to practice witchcraft or divination or communication with the spirit world.One very important point that I must make is that the pastor does not preach down to people; he is very compassionate and shows love towards all, whether they deserve it or not, but he does not ever compromise Holy Standards and say that anything goes and just anything is OK.Also importantly, he underscores that the Angels tell us that we should not seek Angels because Jesus is far greater than any angel!A later book by his daughter included contributions from the whole family and others to show that this man was a sincere person who loved people and was not irresponsible or given to fads.One thing that is real unusual is that after about twenty-five long years of being in print, I felt God calling me to buy his book in case it went out of print or otherwise became unavailable (the book I had was my mom's, not mine). When I eventually got around to looking for it online, I discovered that at almost the exact time that I felt the urge to buy it, the book (and a sequel by his daughter) became available for free online. What coincidence that just when I would try to find it online, it be newly put up after a quarter century! (I downloaded a free copy anyhow, but purchased the a hard copy because it was cheaper than printing out the one I had downloaded.)You can look at any claim that Pastor Buck makes and line it up with the word of God, and it does not contradict the Holy Bible!For example, when he says that the angels told him a major implication of God being omnipresent: The Holy Spirit (Also God) constantly monitors the whole world and knows if one sparrow drops dead to the ground, and additionally can send instructions in real time to angels to address any problem that may exist. This not only gives new meaning to God is "all present, all powerful, all knowing, etc.," but also does not contradict scripture.He says that he is not trying to make you believe him, merely telling what he saw as he was asked to do by God, and he says that he hopes that the reader draws closer to God as a result of his testimony of what he experiences.Lastly, "Don't forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!" Hebrews 13:2 New Living Translation; see also: Genesis 18:1-3 about Abraham and Genesis 19:1-3 about Lot. (They met undercover angels!)This book is a very inspiring -and very trustworthy book. I read this book online for free, THEN, I bought it... Sometimes there is nothing like having a really good book in your hands. I can't wait till it gets cold enough to put on the fireplace and feel the warmth of the fire while having a cup of hot coco as I read this wonderful book, again. I found myself at a coffee house making noises of joy, surprise and awe as I was reading this book in there... I had to leave because I felt like rejoicing in the Lord as I was reading it.What I really enjoyed was the Author stayed close to scripture and he provided so much scripture, that I was able to have a small bible study as I was reading it and we were looking up scripture to make sure it was sound scripturally... in my opinion, it was.In case you missed it: I REALLY enjoyed reading this book! About the Author

Rumi was a 13th-century Persian Muslim poet, jurist, theologian, and Sufi mystic. Maryam Mafi was born and raised in Iran. She went to Tufts University in the U.S. in 1977 where she studied Sociology and Literature. While reading for her Master's degree in International Communications at American and Georgetown Universities she began translating Persian literature and has been doing so ever since. Not enough amazing or beautiful things are said of the wonderful guru rumi. But oh, how I love and admire his work. One of my favorites by him is the guest house. It is, of course in this book! (Page 16!)I bought this book not only because I find his work intriguing and thought provoking, but because I really enjoy reading them outloud to my students at the end of the yoga classes I teach. It's always so wonderful to finish reading some of his work and watch the faces illuminate with understanding. This book is small and can fit in most purses. If you enjoy poetry, or are looking to add to a class, I highly recommend this book. I do not write many book reviews, but just had to let Amazon reviewers/shoppers know that this is worth every penny.

I received this book as a gift. Rumi is my second favorite poet after Robert Frost. Rumi's mind and poetry is as fresh in today's world as it was in Persia and the Middle East over eight hundred years ago.i thought the translation was good and easy to understand. I in turn ordered it as a gift and the bookseller in Florida did a superb job of packaging the book and on time delivery.

I am not a poetry's books fan at all, however, the other day I was watching a tv show and they quoted one of Rumi's poems and I loved it! So I immediately ordered this book and I started reading it as soon as I received it. Every single poem is beautiful, deep, spiritual, relatable, sensitive, moving, timeless and rhythmical!They say that there's a time for everything and this was the perfect time for me to fall in love with Rumi's poetry!
