As a fan of ceramic tile, I bought this book in preparation for an upcoming vacation in San Antonio. First, the quality --the photographs, paper, etc --is extraordinary. The author is obviously extremely knowledgeable and her passion comes through making for enjoyable reading. It is a mix of art, history including the tile workshops role in the WPA and YPA (youth), one woman's story (the founder of the tile workshops) and the story of San Antonio. A coffee table size book, I lugged it with me on our vacation and had no regrets. My goal was to search San Antonio like on an Easter Egg Hunt to find some of the murals and we did! The very first night's walk on the Riverwalk we actually stumbled upon one, just a few yards from where we were having dinner, giving me enough gratification to continue on the search. Our next hunt was for a historic hotel that had one in its courtyard, followed by a trip to one of the mission's where the tile workers were moved to and where eventually the found had a house built adjacent to the mission grounds and lived. Unfortunately, that house is not open to the public but is used as Park Service offices. Hopefully, that will change someday. A must buy!--Pamela Vossenas

Fabulous interesting book. It is one of my favorites

This is a beautiful informative book written by someone who has studied and followed the subject to share with the rest of us the wonder of the San Jose Mission pottery - the inspiration, the making, the painting, and the final resting places. I was a novice concerning decorative tile and pottery but after reading this book, I feel I have a comfortable knowledge and appreciation of it's existence. You will enjoy the presentation, colors, and easy read of this book.

This book was far more than what I expected. The research, details, photography, and quality of book would only be expected in a book 5 times the cost. When I removed the dust jacket to put on a protective dust cover, I saw the actual cover of the book with a tipped on representation of a San Jose Tile. Absolutely 1st class through out. If this book ever goes out of print expect to find it only in the rare book section of antiquarian shops.

Ms. Frost has done a wonderful job of capturing the history and beauty of an artistic and entrepreneurial treasure from Southeast Texas.

Susan Frost's book is beautiful, a real gem for collectors and those interested in this type of whimsical tile work. Excellent research.

This book is stunning!Most collectors of folk art and ceramics want to know the provenance of the items which have inspired their passion, but often they can find nothing about the artisan behind the treasured piece. Frost has ensured that this will never be the case when it comes to San Jose pottery. In addition, she also explores the linkages the Texan potteries had with tile makers from both California and Mexico.This book is beautifully designed and presents vivid photographs of a wide variety of tiles and other objects produced by the various workshops. In addition, extensive historical and documentary materials (including sketches, drawings, old photographs and pages from old catalogs) are included. Collectors have a treasure trove of material to use in assessing their present collections or as they plan their next acquisition.Through the author's excellent narrative, the people behind the potteries come alive. Thus, the founder of three potteries (Mexican Arts and Crafts, San Jose Potteries, and Mission Crafts), Ethel Wilson Harris, artist Fernando Ramos and the others profiled in Frost's splendid work, will never fade into obscurity, as have other skilled crafts people who did not have the benefit of scholarship such as Frost's.This book is a real treat on many levels. I have so many recipe books gathering dust that I was reluctant to buy another one, but this one is different. It isn't about creating "Pinterest worthy" meals. It isn't about carbs or calories. It is about feeding your family food that you know all the ingredients, that is delicious, and that three kids will eat. I can't say enough good things!!!

This is the BEST cookbook for easy meals that are both heathy and look like you spent a lot of time and effort on them. I do not cook or really enjoy it but have become quite the chef lately thanks to this easy to follow cook book. My husband and 3 year old are very pleased!

I love this book. We have tried a handful of recipes and they are delish. Any meal that makes 2 kids, a husband, and me happy is a winner and this book has tons!

Great book, we cook from here often. I like the meal planning. I just wish there were more "on the go" snack recipes.

Love this. I try my best to eat a clean diet. How to Feed a Family incorporates all the ingredients I use on a daily basis. The reviewer that said they are hard to find and pricey isn't shopping at the right stores. I find it all at Stop and Shop!!! Look in the natural food aisle. Love that Laura and Ceri integrate veggies and other healthy options into some of my favorite comfort foods. Who doesn't love Mac and Cheese...and add in sweet potatoes? Who would have thought...Yummmy!

I was really looking forward to the cookbook, but it wasn't a great one to be honest with you. Pretty disappointed in the dinner and lunch recipes (breakfast was decent, pancakes, fritatas, but nothing new).The dinners for the most part were not very kid friendly (fancy salads & rack of lamb etc). There were a few okay ones (lemon pasta, egg cups), but for the most part not what we were looking for. A few "recipes" for grilled cheese - changed by adding apples or grapes.Many of the baking recipes call for spelt flour, as opposed to WW or AP.The Popsicle recipes were okay, but I didn't want a $20 cookbook for 5 Popsicle recipes.I sadly returned this one to Amazon. If you are looking for a must-have, go-to wholesome family cookbook I can't say enough good things about the Weelicious ones written by Catherine McCord (also found on Amazon)

The recipes are easy to follow - nothing super fancy but full of good ideas on how to get more vegetables into everyone (the macaroni & cheese with kale bread crumb topping is great).The photo illustrations are beautiful and while the authors' kids are a little on the precious side, can you really complain about anyone whose proud of their kids?

These recipes really aren't realistic or helpful for a busy family with a family of young children - especially those with a milk allergy. We may grow into it in a few years but with a toddler, its just not helpful.

Really fantastic cookbook! I owned her first cookbook, which I liked in theory, but honestly, who has time to puree veg to hide in things? This book is truly wonderful. I love that there is a thoughtful mix of beautiful recipes depending on your mood and health mood at the time. The first half of the book is devoted to "virtuous" recipes and is further broken down by breakfast, dinners, and desserts. The same pattern remains for the second half of the book and the "vice" section. I think Jessica Seinfeld is actually pretty funny, and her little comments about each recipe were fun to read. The recipes look easy to make, family friendly, and yummy! I've only made one so far (delish!)-- can't wait to make more!

To date, this is my favorite cookbook for several reasons. 1. It's easy. Don't get me completely wrong, it takes some thought and effort. But compared to most it is pretty straightforward. Cooking times and ingredient measurements are accurate. Which the baker in me appreciates since I feel like some cookbooks get liberal with estimates just to get them into print, and even with the recipe in front of you the meal is still a fail. 2. The ingredients are fresh and simple. No spending hours hunting down random ingredients you might use once and then stash in the abyss of your pantry. (Don't judge. You know you have a three year old bag of millet in the back of your cabinets too.) 3. It is an easy read and is not intimidating. You will actually feel like you know what you are doing in the kitchen with this book. Beware though, your family will start to expect consistent deliciousness. (Mama needs to keep a few pizza delivery nights in her back pocket for sanity. Burn something from time to time to keep it real.) 4. I think Jessica is the bees-knees in general. She shares pics on IG of her recipes on the fly. If you don't follow her on IG, you should. Unless you don't have a sense of humor. Then don't follow her.I feel like this is one of those cookbooks that helps shape what you keep on hand in your pantry and fridge in general - which therefore changes how you cook and eat as a whole. Jessica is all about balance, which I appreciate. Because I ordered the Whole 30 Cookbook and twitched a little as I read it. The entire point of this book is Virtue & Vice. So you have the choice of going healthy, or maybe you had a really bad day and need meatloaf covered in potatoes​ followed up with a chocolate cake chaser. This book gives you BOTH. Worth the purchase!

Love this book! She has divided the book into two sections: "Virtue" and "Vice", thus allowing you to choose how you want to eat that particular day. Some days you may want healthy, vegan, gluten free or vegetarian choices, and some days you may want the down home less healthy choices you may have grown up with. It's all here in this wonderful cookbook. Have made at least nine of the, "Virtue" recipes and have enjoyed nearly every one of them. ( The ginger salmon was THE BEST fish I have ever made. The roasted cauliflower, however, we thought, was rather dry and disappointing. ) There are recipes with chicken, seafood and beef, as well as many without meats in the, "Virtue" section. The recipes in the, "Vice" section look equally delicious, though I have yet to try my hand at them. Jessica has a great sense of humor and she seems very down to earth. Her recipes are easy to follow and don't require a lot of fancy ingredients.

i was intro'ed to this book through i believe Shape magazine...i tried the Moroccan chicken recipe that was printed in the magazine, and had been almost buying this cookbook for prob months afterwards. i finally bit the bullet when the price dropped and am so glad i did!!i am not a complete novice in the kitchen, but by no means am i an expert. this book speaks to you with real words, and describes things in an easy to understand way...almost thinking of the questions you would have on how to cut, when to do what, etc. and answering them for you in a completely non-condescending way.i have tried a handful of options from the virtue section of the book, and none have been particularly hard, and all have been delicious! even my hubs has been impressed. this book has actually made me want to cook more, for cooking to become a hobby and not just something i have to get through.i do want to try some recipes from the virtue section as well! i've been brainstorming cake ideas for my daughters 2nd birthday and am getting very excited. p.s. i have always loved baking...cooking is a new "passion." ;)the cover was actually a turn off to me...it just looked kinda weird...but now that i have the book it makes more sense...creating dishes for both sides of your eating personality...or rather you "food" swings (play on mood swings).my review: get this book, you will not be disappointed!

I write very few reviews but this book is worth doing so. I might have 50 or 60 cookbooks at home and this one is definitely my favorite. I have tried at least 20 recipes and every one of them is outstanding. My favorites are the creamy mushroom pasta,the eggplant cutlets,cauliflower meatballs,the Tomato and Olive roasted chicken with garlic thyme mashed potatoes, lemon meringue cake with raspberry sauce, key lime pie with macadamia nut crust and the chocolate cake to name a few. It is really fun to have a cookbook that have virtue and vice as a choice for cooking. The healthy recipes have so much flavor and the not so healthy recipes are so good that you don't even care LOL. This is my go-to book since I've gotten it and can't say enough good things. Thank you Jessica!!!

I loved this cookbook! Because I've been disappointed by so many cookbooks in the past, I checked THIS cookbook out at our library first. Then I could not order a copy fast enough!!! My family eats too much beef & pork. Jessica's chicken and fish recipes are so appealing...cod wrapped in chard leaves? We are trying this immediately. Hey, Jessica needs a FoodNetwork show, truly.

This is the second book in this series which begins with A Lizard in My Luggage. In the first book the author and her family are refurbishing the old, falling apart home they purchased in Mallorca. I criticized the first book for being too frenetic, for unanswered questions, and for the talking toad. Really? How believable is a book that's supposedly based on reality when there is a talking toad?I like that within the first few pages of this book a few of the questions I had about the first book were answered. And, I like that the pace of this book is a little less frantic. Unfortunately, the talking toad is still talking. Thank goodness he shuts up in winter.In this book Ms. Nicholas is still shlepping back and forth to London for her PR firm which pays the bills. She trains for the New York Marathon and she researches the possibility of building a high class cat boarding kennel in Mallorca. Her wonderful friends in Mallorca are featured and so are some new friends. There are some heartbreaking losses and a few gains. Anna Nicholas seems busier than ever and I have to wonder if she isn't busier commuting from Mallorca than she was when she lived in London. But then, I think she's one of those people who thrives on being crazy busy.The author's adjectives are as colorful as her wonderful book covers. A few of her adjective combinations made me laugh. And some made me roll my eyes. But, mostly, her writing is fun.I am going to take some time off from her books, but I will definitely read the third one in the near future.

So far this has been a fine read. I would recommend this for either right- before- bed, or on the beach, a quiet afternoon, etc. There are quite a few dynamic features to the story line. A few twists and tunes, and the characters are pretty well developed. There are a few parts that could be edited slightly better, but I do know most authors on here prefer for their readers to help them out in this aspect.It was not hard reading by any means, but it was also not an elementary level book. Be prepared for some love scenes. But honestly, sometimes they do add to the storyline, right?I hope to either purchase more in this series (if there is one) or get the author motivated to write more! Not that this was left with just a cliffhanger or anything, I have just loved how the storyline was developed, and would love to know where this could head into the future. Knowing how the characters have developed, interacted, and have grown leaves me with a lot of hope for more. I always love series/ books where there is a spin- off into a similar setting, but with acquaintances that the characters had, or will have.Overall, this is a great value and I would highly recommend it. It is a great value for the price, and it simply cannot be beat! I will be purchasing more from this author in the future, and look forward to new releases.

I do enjoy the book and the concept of it, but most importantly I love the book because it relates to me in so many ways. Its nice to not have to say what you feel when someone has already said it for you. Read it and you will not regret getting it!

This book by Amy Sparling takes you on an adventure as you watch Jace and Bayleigh take it to the next level in their relationship. Amy truly shows the trustworthy in Jace and the true colors within Bayleigh. Once reaching the second cover you while be sucked into a teenage love life

I absolustely LOVE everything about this whole series!!! 💓💓 But there is one flaw i didnt like about this book. Jace mentions his parents divorce but then in the rest of the books his parents are happily married and completely in love. Was very confusing. The only reason i didnt give it 5 stars.

It had potential to be pretty good, but there just wasn't a lot of depth to this one. It felt too short and rushed. I think it will end up ok by the end of the series. It was fine.

this book is really short and starts at a weird places not where unplugged ended. that being said it is still a cute book with a good story line. I would be mortified if I walked in on my mom like Bailey did

This is the second story in the Summer Unplugged series. All four are good. Great read for not a lot of time. Cute characters and I really enjoyed sharing their story
